Traditional bluegrass, newgrass and old-time
Traditional bluegrass keeps the classic acoustic line-up — five-string banjo, fiddle, mandolin, guitar and upright bass — with tight, high harmonies and fast instrumental "breaks", the style Bill Monroe and Earl Scruggs defined. Newgrass (progressive bluegrass, after the New Grass Revival) keeps those instruments but stretches the songs with longer improvisation and ideas borrowed from rock and jazz. Old-time and Appalachian string bands reach back to the fiddle-and-banjo mountain music that bluegrass came from. The stations here cover the whole span, so whether you want pure traditional bluegrass or modern newgrass, there is a stream for it.
