“Server error” or “Connection Error”
An empty Internet Radio list, or “HTTP Error 503”
If your Onkyo shows a Server error, a Connection Error, or an empty Internet Radio list, the directory it relied on (vTuner) became unavailable on many older receivers. Retune·FM gives Internet Radio a working address again.
Build your own station list
The station list didn’t break. Its directory closed to legacy receivers.
Onkyo’s Internet Radio menu was powered by vTuner. When vTuner turned its free directory into a paid, restricted service, many Onkyo network receivers could no longer load the station list — so the menu returns a Server error or comes up empty. Retune·FM answers where vTuner used to, and the list fills up again.
This works on the older, vTuner-based Onkyo network receivers. If your Onkyo uses a newer streaming platform with its own radio service, you may not need it.
One DNS setting, about two minutes
You change a single value on the Onkyo — its DNS server. Nothing else on your network changes.

Check that stations are back
Power the Onkyo off and on (or reconnect it to the network), then open Internet Radio / NET RADIO. The list should come alive. If it’s still empty, re-check the DNS value and that the receiver gets its settings from your router.

Which Onkyo models does this help?
The vTuner-based network receivers — many TX-NR models, the TX-8050 network receiver and CR-N / CS-N network minisystems. If Internet Radio worked before and now shows a Server error or an empty list, this method applies.
I get “Server error” or “HTTP 503”. Is that this problem?
Almost always yes. Those messages mean the receiver reached out for the station directory and got nothing back — exactly what happens when the legacy vTuner directory is gone.
Is it legal? Do I need an app?
Yes, and no app. Retune·FM only links to publicly available radio streams and is independent of Onkyo and vTuner. You change one DNS value on the receiver — no app, no account.
How do I undo it?
Set the Onkyo’s DNS back to automatic (or your router’s address). Everything returns to how it was.
