Why saved stations still play but the directory is empty

It’s a confusing symptom: a few stations play perfectly, yet the full list shows nothing. There’s a simple explanation.

Favourites store the stream, not the directory

When you saved a favourite, the receiver kept that station’s direct stream address. Playing it doesn’t need the directory at all — it connects straight to the stream. So your saved stations keep working even after the directory is gone.

Browsing needs the directory

The full browse list — by country, by genre — is fetched fresh from the vTuner directory every time you open it. With the directory unavailable, there’s nothing to show, so the list is empty or errors out.

What it tells you

This is actually good news: the receiver, the network and its streaming are all fine. Only the directory is missing — exactly what Retune·FM replaces. Point the receiver’s DNS at us and the browse list fills up again, while your old favourites keep working. See the DNS setup guide.

Retune·FM is an independent hobby project. It only links to publicly available radio streams — no audio is re-hosted. Not affiliated with any receiver manufacturer or the former vTuner service.
