HEOS vs vTuner: which Denon and Marantz models need this?

Denon and Marantz split into two eras. Knowing which one your receiver belongs to tells you whether you need Retune·FM at all.

The “H” is the giveaway

Denon added an H to model names when it moved to HEOS — for example the AVR-X1400H, X2400H, X3400H and newer. Those models use the HEOS platform for Internet Radio and streaming, which still works; they don’t need this fix.

Pre-HEOS models used vTuner

Earlier receivers — Denon AVR-X1000/2000/3000, the X1x00W/X2x00W/X3x00W series, RCD-N7/N8/N9, and the equivalent Marantz SR, NR, AV, NA and M-CR generations — relied on the vTuner directory. These are the ones whose Internet Radio went quiet, and the ones Retune·FM restores.
