How Retune·FM’s DNS works
The whole fix rests on one small redirection. Here’s what actually happens behind the scenes.
The receiver asks for an address
When you open Internet Radio, the receiver looks up a name like vtuner.com to find the directory server. That lookup goes to whatever DNS server the receiver is set to use.
We answer for that name — and only that name
When the receiver uses Retune·FM as its DNS, the lookup for the legacy radio-directory names (vtuner.com and a few related domains) returns our server instead of a dead one. Our server then speaks the same protocol the receiver expects and hands back a full, working list of stations.
Everything else passes through untouched
Any other name your receiver looks up is forwarded to public resolvers unchanged. We only answer for the radio directory — we are not in the path of your other traffic, and DNS queries are not logged. See the DNS privacy & security page for the full detail.
The audio doesn’t go through us
Once you pick a station, the receiver connects to that station’s public stream directly. We provide the directory; the sound comes straight from the broadcaster to your device.
